Installer FAQs

What are Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs)?

keyboard_arrow_down

SRECs represent verified renewable energy production. If you own a solar system on your home or building, you can generate and sell RECs for every 1 MW (or 1,000 kW) of solar energy you generate. Some states mandate that utilities and other buyers purchase SRECs from you in order to meet the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) law. You can generate and sell your SRECs through Currents, creating passive income without lifting a finger.

Why are SRECs valuable at all?

keyboard_arrow_down

Utilities and corporations buy renewable energy credits (RECs) to avoid fines (ACP) or meet clean energy goals. SRECs are the solar-specific type of REC, also known as alternative energy credits (AECs) in some states. The type of credit you generate—SRECs, AECs, or Class I RECs—depends on your solar system’s location. While they work the same way, their market prices vary.

How much can I earn from referring my customers?

keyboard_arrow_down

We pass a portion of our revenue back to you when you refer customers to our SREC services.

The price of SRECs varies by day and by the location of your customers' solar systems. Each state has its own market and the prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand. For instance, the average solar owner in Pennsylvania makes around $420 per year, while the average DC-based solar owner can make over $3,900!

What is your pricing for customers?

We aim to be the most transparent service on the market. There are no transaction fees. There are no hidden fees. It’s a flat 5% (with $5 minimum) for the majority of customers. View our pricing page for more.

How do I sign up and start adding customers?

keyboard_arrow_down

Click "Get Started" at the top to set up your Installer account with Currents. You can quickly begin adding customers and their system specs. We handle all customer communication on your behalf.

On the customer side, we register their system with the state and tracking registry. From there, they sign our management agreement and connect their solar inverter for automatic reporting. We will generate and sell credits on their behalf and send payouts automatically. You will receive a portion of these payouts when they're made.

How else does Currents help installers?

keyboard_arrow_down

Our business isn't just SRECs - it's helping homeowners electrify their homes - so we don't need to make a profit on SRECs like the other players. Instead, we're educating and helping homes attach batteries, EV chargers and more by re-connecting them to you for projects when they're ready.
