Lower my utility bill

Met-Ed's residential Price to Compare for the generation supply portion of your bill is:

11.903¢/kWh from June 1, 2025

The previous Met-Ed price to compare was 11.011¢/kWh from December 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025

This rate affects all Met-Ed customers in southeastern Pennsylvania, serving approximately 560,000 customers.

About Met-Ed: Met-Ed (formerly Metropolitan Edison Co.) is an electric distribution company owned by FirstEnergy Company, which also operates Penn Elec, West Penn Power, and Penn Power2.

Competitive Supplier Rates vs. Met-Ed Rates Per kWh

Pennsylvania's deregulated energy market allows customers to choose alternative suppliers that may offer lower rates than the utility's standard offer. Current Met-Ed energy rates can be compared with competitive supplier options:

For Met-Ed customers, supplier rates as low as 7.89¢/kWh have been available, potentially providing savings of over 25% compared to Met-Ed's current Price to Compare3.

Recent Changes in Met-Ed Current Rates

Met-Ed's Price to Compare rates have shown fluctuation in recent years:

  • June 1, 2025 - November 31, 2025: 11.903c/kWh
  • December 1, 2024 - May 31, 2025: 11.011¢/kWh
  • September 1, 2024 - November 30, 2024: 10.406¢/kWh
  • June 1, 2024 - August 31, 2024: 10.40¢/kWh
  • December 1, 2023 - May 31, 2024: 11.306¢/kWh

This increase is part of a settlement reached in FirstEnergy Pennsylvania's rate review, which will remain in effect until 2026 [4].

The rate increase is accompanied by commitments from FirstEnergy to upgrade infrastructure and improve reliability for Met-Ed customers. This includes expanding underground infrastructure, implementing a new inspection schedule for overhead lines starting in 2025, and establishing a $2 million fund to provide financial aid for customers experiencing hardships.
