What you need to know

in

Maryland

Every 1,000 kW (or 1MW) your system generates, you create 1 SREC that can be sold. This helps you pay off your solar faster and creates passive income for you.

SREC Program Details in

Maryland

In 2019, Maryland passed a 50% RPS by 2030 and doubled the mandate for solar. Prices have since rebounded in the Maryland SREC market. However, the SREC market in Maryland is undergoing changes. The state Public Service Commission is proposing a program for in-state solar projects up to 2MW that come on line from 1 July 2024 to 1 January 2028. Qualifying projects would receive 1.5 SRECs for each megawatt-hour of electricity generated, rather than one SREC.

How to register for Maryland SRECs:

  • Once you have completed the installation of your solar photovoltaic (PV) system in Maryland, you will need to obtain your Interconnection Agreement
  • Once you have received your signed copy of the Interconnection Agreement Certificate of Completion, you can work with Currents to broker your SRECs each month
  • We will work with the Maryland Public Service Commission to get your solar system certified.

In Maryland, SREC eligibility goes back to the system’s interconnection date, so long as the system’s registration is submitted to the state within that same calendar year. Additionally, SRECs three years older or newer can be sold.

Systems smaller than 10kW AC in Maryland that do not have a revenue grade solar meter are eligible for production estimates.
